Renovating educational spaces: a project with the Reggio Children Foundation

FARE SCUOLA is a joint initiative between Enel Cuore and the Fondazione Reggio Children aimed at renovating children’s educational and recreational spaces. This includes rethinking them not only in terms of functionality, but as places for learning and building relationships.

Moreover, this project addresses SDG 4 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the UN 2030 Agenda. It focuses on quality education, which consists in ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education. The initiative impacts pre-primary and primary education in Italy, and has led to the creation of a total of 90 interventions that improve recreational and educational spaces for children.

We have contributed to one of these interventions: the renovation of the Multi-purpose hall of the Municipality of Norcia.

The project aims to give the space a unique identity, creating a sense of space and enhancing natural light. In addition, the Multi-purpose hall has been designed and organised into micro-areas with different characters. These will allow to host differentiated and separable activities thanks to mobile curtains.

To achieve these objectives, simple but highly effective tools were identified: mirrored surfaces, mobile curtains, differentiated lighting. These make the spaces feel welcoming, airy and well-organised, with the ultimate aim of conveying feelings of wonder.

The hall has two macroareas:

• the entrance area, characterised by two elements of great impact: the “infinite bookcase” and the “mirroring ceiling”;
• the second part of the room works as a succession of micro-areas: the soft area for reading and relaxation, the laboratory activity area and the projection area.

All furniture solutions are flexible in terms of the use of the space for different purposes and future needs.
