Culture for Africa: Makerere Institute New Library
The renovation project of the MISR (Makerere Institute of Social Research) has its purpose the general reorganization of the main entrance to allow increased visibility and functionality to internal
movements. In addition, the project includes the expansion of the library, a recreation area and two seminar rooms.
The project is, therefore, thought in two different steps:
> library extension
> a stand-alone structure as new entrance
Library extension
The library extension is positioned on the first floor in continuity with the existing structure with direct access from the current reading rooms. The expansion includes new reading spaces, and shelves for storage books. On the ground floor, below the library, it is expected an outdoor space dedicated after-hours study plan for the students
Stand-alone structure
The project includes a new entrance building to the MISR to be placed in the garden. Is to be expected also the reorganization of all the access paths to the MISR. The stand-alone structure will house a recreation area and two seminar rooms.
