A new graphic novel by TAMassociati: La Nave (The Ship)
“The ship”: history of architecture for a rescue.
A graphic reportage by Raul Pantaleo, Marta Gerardi and Francesco De Scisciolo, on the rescue vessel “Life Support” of the ong Emergency. In the name of Gino Strada.
51.30 meters long, 12 meters wide, average speed 10 knots (18.52 km/h), 1350 tonnage.
These are the measurements of the Life Support of EMERGENCY, at sea since December 2022, to fill the gap in the European reception plan that puts human life back at the center and helps to remove the infamous record of the most lethal migratory route in the world from the Mediterranean.
With these assumptions, what is an architect doing on board during the patrol mission “Search and Rescue” n° 8, destination SAR area 2, in front of Libya?
Simple, he is the one who designed the ship’s livery, and after years of collaboration with EMERGENCY, Raul Pantaleo decided to come on board to “humanize” the space where the shipwrecked will be welcomed.
2000 miles, 336 hours of navigation, 29 shipwrecked rescued: these are the numbers that summarize Raul’s experience and that he will always carry with him in his memories and in his body.
